Birdsongs
of the Mesozoic celebrates the release of Petrophonics,
the group's 10th recording, with an explosive concert of creative
new music at the Provincetown Art Museum at 6pm (note special
time) on Saturday, September 30th.
Birdsongs
is a four-piece electrified modern music ensemble formed in 1980.
Instrumentation consists of piano, synthesizer, guitar, and saxophone/flute,
with occasional percussion and computer sequencing. Birdsongs
recently completed a series of performances and recordings with
All
Things Considered commentator and Duplex
Planet publisher David Greenberger, under the title "1001
Real Apes".
Petrophonics
is the first release in five years by this internationally acclaimed
group, who has shared stages with Fred Frith, Ran Blake, the Lounge
Lizards, Sonny Sharrock, Siouxsie & the Banshees, and others.
Performances and residencies have ranged from the surreal (the
Salvador Dali Museum) to the even more surreal (the Disney Institute),
and from the east coast (Dartmouth College) to beyond the west
coast (the Honolulu Academy of Arts).
According
to the New York Times, Birdsongs of the Mesozoic's music
"sounds like a party in a Cubist roadhouse." Through over two
decades of evolution, Birdsongs' legendary "progressive/classical/rock/minimalist/jazz/car-wreck"
music has generated ten recordings, numerous tours and concert
appearances, and extensive critical and public acclaim. This will
be Birdsongs' first Provincetown performance ever!
Fans
of interesting, innovative, and original music should not miss
this special concert.
